Gallery Arts India in London

Gallery Arts India will open its new space in London on 8th March 2007. It will take over the space that previously housed the Gagosian Gallery (on 8 Heddon St. London W1) and the gallery will be devoted to contemporary art that linked to the South Asian Sub Continent. The opening of the gallery will be marked by a grand show titled ‘The Other’, which will feature the Indian artist Riyas Komu and American artist Peter Drake, addressing the themes of identity and contemporary media culture.

Ranbir Kaleka to work on Holocaust

Well known Indian artist Ranbir Singh Kaleka is commissioned to create a permanent video installation on Holocaust at the Jewish Museum in Chicago, also called the Spertus Museum, which is moving into a new building opening in September 2007. “I believe it’s brave of the director and the curator to shift away from a Jewish-centric engagement with the subject,” Kaleka told in New Delhi. Kaleka had attended the artist residency in Montalvo in 2006 and made a large video installation piece called “Crossings”, which was shown at the last Venice Biennale at the Icon show. Also he represented India along with Nalini Malani in a show conceived to pay tributes to Nam Jun Paik at Miami Basel 2006.
