lists out the dates and venues of protests by the Indian artists community against the Hindu fundamentalists’ attack on the Fine Arts Faculty, Baroda.

 

Free Chandra Mohan at Chemould Prescott Road on 12th May 2007

 

The artists community of Mumbai will gather at Chemould Prescott Road on 12th May 2007 at 6 pm to protest against the arrest of the final year MFA student Chandra Mohan by the Baroda Police at the false charges by the Hindu fundamentalists.

The artists had gathered at the Chemould Prescott Road on 10th May in order to raise funds for bailing Chandra Mohan out. They had collected Rs.20,000 towards this. Artists representatives will visit Baroda on 14th May 2007 in order to express their solidarity with the students and faculty members.

 

Faculty of Fine Arts, Baroda, Massive Rally on 14th May 2007

 

A massive protest rally will be taken out on 14th May 2007 at 2 pm from the Faculty of Fine Arts. Artists and intellectuals from all over the country will join the students and faculty members.

The artists, students and faculty members have already started a sit in before the Fine Arts College, Faculty. They demand the immediate release of Chandra Mohan who is accused of indecent representation by the Hindu fundamentalists. They also demand the reinstatement of the suspended Dean of the Faculty, Shivji Panikkar. Shivji was suspended from his official duties by the University Authorities as he did not yield to their pressures to call of an exhibition organized by the students. Earlier the Hindu fundamentalists had asked him to apologize on behalf of the Fine Arts Faculty. He had refused to do so.

The Artists Community in Delhi will gather at the Lalit Kala Akademy Lawns on 14th May at 6 pm in order to express their solidarity with the protesting students and faculty members in Baroda. The meeting will also demand the release of Chandra Mohan who is in Baroda Central Jail now.

 

Artists in Kozhikode Protest on 13th May 2007

Artists in North Kerala will protest against the Hindu fundamentalists involvement in disrupting the smooth functioning of Fine Arts Faculty, Baroda, on 13th May. The protest meeting will take place at the OHA building of Open Eyed Dream. Dilip Narayanan of will preside over the function.

 

Artists Protests in Kochi on 14th May 2007

The Kochi based artists will express their solidarity with the artists and faculty members of Baroda on 14th May. Artist Rajan M Krishnan said that there would be a signature campaign for the immediate release of the arrested art student Chandra Mohan.
